William Tyndale (c.1494-1536) completed a New Testament translation in
1524 using the printing press. The document was outlawed in England. He
escaped persecution by fleeing England and smuggling copies of the
Bible to his countrymen! He was eventually strangled to death and
burned at the stake!

John Wycliffe (c.1329-1384) the "Morning Star of the Reformation"
translated the first English copy of the Bible in 1380. He did this
amidst great hostility from civic and religious leaders and was greatly
opposed. After his death his bones were dug up and scattered to show
contempt.
